Default Seat Backs.........

Can someone tell me how the carpet is attached to the seat backs on my 81? Is it just glued in place? I just got all my new carpet from Wilcox and was wondering how to get it off the back of the seats. Thanks in advance for any help.

Mine was tacked in place with a small staples in each corner, don't know if that's the way it was done at the factory or if bubba got there first. I did not see any signs of glue on my seatbacks. I also got my interior pieces from Wilcox, great stuff.

Just redid mine, get a good quality heat gun. Start at the edges and use a putty knife. It will start to come up. As you get more and more to come up you will hit the small staples that are used. Just pull up with needlenose pliers and continue with the putty knife. Beware! the heat gun will heat the glue so it is a hot gooey mess that smells pretty bad. After the carpet comes off use the heat gun and putty knife to remove the left over glue. Now you can prepare the back for paint and new carpet.

Did your carpet on the seat backs fit? Mine has a trim sown on and seems to be about 1/4 inch to long, will not lay flat in the cutout of seat back. Carpet set came from Wilcox, ACC carpet.

The drivers side seatback on my 82 is starting to come unglued. What kind of glue have you all used to reattach the carpet...3M Interior Spray Adhesive or what?

Thanks,

Craig

The 3M will work. Some folks have used superglue.
