How can you tell if a "Battery Tender" is working properly.
It's new but I get no readings.
I hooked up my Craftsman Digital Meter to the ends that go on the battery terminals ( Positive and Negative Leads) and I get no reading.
The little light on the meter is on but could it be defective?
Why can't I get a reading or am I doing something wrong as I am not to bright when it comes to automotive electrical?
The meter is good because it reads OK on everything else I tested so I know there's no problem with the meter.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kurt
Not intended to be ignorant, but the multimeter should read the battery voltage. The tender should have green/red light indication, or light on/off indication.
Alot of these devices need to have a load on them before they will start charging the battery. You need to connect the leads to the battery, then take a reading with your meter. Better yet, take a battery reading without any connections, then hook up the tender and take a second reading. The second reading had better be higher than the first.
The model is the same one shown in the picture above; its the "Battery Tender Plus" model with the green label.
I checked the fuse and it is good.
All the lights come on exactly as it says they should but I expected to be able to read some voltage or amperage at the leads end.
Maybe it is as 1stC3Vette said, and maybe it needs a load before it will provide a reading.
I had it plugged in on the bench and was trying to get a reading that way.
Thanks all for the input.
I appreciate it,
Kurt
