Default Adjusting Convertible Top

1970 vert

How do you adjust the way the frame fits to the rear deck?
I have lengthened the pins, but when I insert the header into the windshield frame, the rear pins pop out from the deck. Sometimes they stay in but pop out when I hit a bump while driving.

If they do stay in the deck, then there is a gap under the weatherstrip.

Besides lengthening or shortening the pins, is there any other adjustment that can be made?

Anywhere that describes the adjustment procedure?

I didn't see it in the AIM.

Thanks

One of the pin latches was doing the same thing during test fits of the soft top. The latch wasn't returning all the way after being tripped (opened).

I checked to make sure the rods wern't adjusted too tightly and holding the lock open a little, but they were fine. After I used a little oil on the hinge points of the lock and exercised it a few times, it returned just fine and held the pin.

There are 3 attaching points. The winshield is pretty much non adjustable. Just make sure is squeezes the weatherstripping enough to seal. The rear deck pins are pretty much the same idea. Adjust to get the correct squish of the weather strip.
The other adjustment is where the frame bolts to the car. You can raise or lower the top frame here to adjust the tension on the top.
Perhaps you have too much tension on the rear pins?
But, be advised, if you change the atachment bolt adjustments, your window fitment will change also.

That's what I can't seem to get...the "squish" on the weatherstrip at the rear deck.

I haven't touched the part where the frame bolts to the car. That will be a last resort.

Going to work on those pins again. Maybe they need to be screwed in more to get the top to seat down.
