well after who knows how many years, too many, and some help from Gary (Duke94) I have all three interior courtesy lights now working on my ole stingray! Had to do some electrical cleanup and some soldering but now everything works! Yea for me. Now just have to find out why the dang temp guage isn't reading...

That's my next project, along with the door ajar switches.
At room temperature, you should get a reading of around 365 ohms.
Next remove the green wire from the sending unit, remove the center dash bezel. With a multi meter ping the wire and make sure it is passing from the sender to the gauge. If you have continuity and the sender is working properly then you have a gauge problem. If you do not have continuity then your sender wire is broken somewhere in line and as you guessed, if the sender is not putting out the correct ohms replace it.
You should also check the black ground wire on the back of the center dash cluster small gauge pod.
Thanks for all the info guys! I have checked and changed the sending unit on the block and it is good. I also took the wire off the sender and grounded it out and the temp guage pegged out. So I know that the guage is good. I do need to check the grounds on the block and also the grounds on the center guage cluster...haven't done that yet but will do tonight or tomorrow night. Im betting the grounds are the problem but just have to figure out which one is the one that is causing the problems! Anyone know where exactly the center guage cluster ground is located on the housing?
A very common mistake when installing a temperature sending unit is to run the Teflon tape all the way up the threads.
This will not allow the sender to ground out properly and cause it to not send the proper ohms reading to the gauge.
Many people believe the tape is to stop the sending unit from leaking when in fact it is only supposed to act as a lubricant on the pipe threads for install. Make sure when installing a sending unit to only wrap the first three threads of the sending unit.
Next I would check the black ground wire located on the center dash cluster. There is a grounding tab that is on the back where the main back plate screws to the dash bezel center and it should have a single black wire hooked to it.
