First off, I easily get 18 MPG. Secondly, If I had an overdrive or an LS1 as many of you do, my fuel economy would be insane, but guess what, I'm just not that worried about it.
Secondly, why am I going to pay attention to anybody else. I'd have to slow down... They all drive too slow. I mean seriously, at least GO the speed limit. It's not that hard. My point being that hippies drive too slow.
Thirdly, anybody remember Rancho Seco (nuclear power plant in California)? My dad was up for Superintendent when the hippies got it shut down in 1989. That's why we moved to Virginia when I was 6. I don't owe those hippies a thing. Does anybody have any idea what happens to an area when you just remove 914 MW of generating capacity. Hello brownouts! They can continue to live like Quakers for all I care.
I liked the line from a previous post where a Prius owner told one of our guys that he got X gas mileage and our guy told him that he'd rather have the Vette.
Also, the Prius is so ugly that it hurts my eyes just to look at it. Toyota didn't even try to make it aestically appealling and it has a huge front. I read that the coefficient of drag is 0.26. Could you imagine how low that would be if someone with half a brain was contracted to reduce parasitic drag? And then, it wouldn't kill them to put an optional engine with more than 90 HP in it. If they are so smart, how come they haven't even overcome the corona effect yet (which BTW I think could be done with a vacuum)?
The best comment I ever got was at a bank drive through, they told me I had to turn mine off, it was too loud and they couldn't hear. As far as the tree huggers, my sister is one and I tell her all my vehicles just cancel out any gas savings her compact rice burner gets.
I have recieved the MPG lecture from a liberal "friend" of mine, i quickly pointed out that his jeep gets around 15 to 17 mpg, my vette gets far better than that. And mine is only going to be a weekend crusier
I have never received the look, and I never get reaction on noise because I absolutely hate loud cars. But no MPG comments.
I would get absolutely nasty if I heard some Left Wing Moron start that speech. I hate them anyway, so that attitude would set me off.
Last year at a show, some guy asked me what kind of gas mileage I got in my '58. I told him I had absolutely no idea, that this was the last thing on my mind regarding the car. He thought I was insane.
I'd like to buy a Hummer with the plate, "NOT GREEN" just to irritate them.
I actually got "the look" when I had the twin carb tunnel ram on, sitting at a red light and a guy on a moped pulls up next to me. Shooting flaming darts from his eyes. I told him "it's okay, I bought carbon credits." At the gas pump it was pretty typical to get the "bet you do that (pump gas) alot" comment. Oh well, bet I have more fun.
WOW guys, I just don't get it. I always thought 10 to 14 MPG was really good ! I can remember the day I came home braging to my wife ( she drives a Honda ) that I got 17mpg in the 72... I think she gave me " The Look ". Then again I get so many looks from her I can't tell what they all mean... I just don't get it....

In fact, if I ever get a bad look from someone driving a car such as a hybrid maybe i'll thank them for driving such a fuel efficient car and leaving extra gas in the world for me to run my Vettes!
I've had my 68 since 1972 and I coud give a rat's a-- whether somebody else likes it or not. I didn't buy it for them, I bought it for me and I will have it until I drop dead.

most people with a lumpy cam know the car is going to suck gas like crazy. most also will just use the car for fun so it really does not matter. more than anything i think you are getting that look in sympathy for driving a gas hog with gas prices at record highs. i say we all pay $20 each into a fund to have all the truckers in america to stay parked for one week. my car will have a nasty idle and will get terrible milage and i dont care. it is being built for performance and fun. my d/d is a 6 spd and i get about 23mpg avarage with my 3.90 gear and 437hp. i have no complaints at all with that. i do get the question at the gas pump once in a while asking if the car drinks gas or not. they are shocked that i can get 27 mpg out on the interstate. as for global warming....... havent we been warming since the ice age ended? how come there is record snow in the north this year? with the current path of this country we should be worried about a lot more than the climate. we will be doomed far before the weather gets us. i could rant all day but i think i will save the frustration and go drive my car just for fun.
I started up my 78 the other day to drive it out of the enclosed car hauler, revved it a few times and scared a dog who was walking by. The guy waved at me later when he walked past again.

If your shark sounds and/or looks bad a$$ enough, they're afraid to give "the look".
