I am trying to isolate a noise that is coming from either the rear bearings or Diff. I would like to run the car with the rear end up in the air, (tires off the ground). Can you do this with a Corvette? Thanks
Thanks Guys, Its kind of a grinding noise or whirling noise. I only hear it at very low speeds. The noise speeds up and slows down in relationship to how fast the car is rolling. Sometimes I don't hear it at all. I never hear it when the radio is turned up.

Something else to consider is an additive made by GM, for the diff. They sell it at parts counters at GM service centers.
In my opinion, I am thinking rear diff. I would change rear end fluid and try that. Make sure you add the GM additive. If it was trailering arms, I would think you'd here it all the time.

I had the same noise, rear diff / posi fluid broke down, emptied it out & refilled it, did lots of figure 8's afterwards & it cured the noises, alo had to change out my rear end carrier mount bushing, it was wasted !!!
I just took my 2006 vette into the dealership for a 10000 mile check up. I told them about a grinding noise from the rear end. I was told that the fluid GM put in is breaking down and that it needs to be flushed and a synthetic fluid added. The kicker is that even though vetts are showing up with this problem they are not covering it under the warranty. I'm fighting this one big time as I don't think I should have to pay 130 bucks or do work myself when GM knows of the problem.

I don't think that really applies here though, I certainly hope no C3 owner still has the original fluid in there!
Sorry, came in the middle of conversation and I'm dealing with an issue with the 06 and noise. Got bigger issues now, my wife hit a deer last night with the 06 on the highway (3 hours away from here), bent up the license plate and hit the hood, windshield, roof, back and side, blood, fur and scratches every where. She drove it away and now I have to get a new paint job (thank god for insurance).
