I'm hoping to install it this weekend. I'll try to take some before & after pics. Just hope the lights light up after installing it! The plug at the firewall is a bit grimy and looks like it's been years since it was last pluged to the previous switch. I'll need clean it up. Bubba's handy work. Let the fun begin!
One question, will it work by just plugging it in, in the engine bay before installing and then turning the ignition switch on as a test?
Glenn
I believe so, install the switch, turn the ignition on, but don't start the car, put the car in reverse, and have you or someone else let you know if the lights are on. I did this with my car, but I have an auto and it worked for me.

Yes, it will work w/o being attached to the trannie. You'll have to adjust it after you bolt on.
Here's pic if you need one.
Put the switch in yesterday. Took a little over an hour. You need to remove the reverse rod & lever off the tranny. This makes it easy to connect the switch pushrod and connect the tiny wire retainers. Also connect it to the switch before you mount the switch. Next mount everytrhing back in place finger tight and tested. First attempt the backup lights didn't light up. I pulled the harness plugs apart and repluged them untill it made a snap sound and now they work! Here's a few pics underneath.
Here's the wire harness pluged together. Pink & green wires.
Also drove the vette in our local St.Pats parade. Lots of fun & complements.
Happy S.t Patrics Day!!

Follow 427's instructions and feel the wires at the plug area, when I tried to check the functionality, the lights lit, but the wires at the plug were in bad shape and were shorting and heating up. I cleaned them up and retaped them and everything was fine.

Hey...when you are done down there in peekskill, you can come up to philmont and do mine. I just ordered a swtch. I have not even looked...is yours the same as a 68, if so please do take pictures even of the plug.
Thanks,
Jeff
DUH.... I just noticed the pictures above......
Does a 68 plug into the same area? Bubba cut my wires.

I'm guessing it would come through the firewall in the same place. You know how those 68's are. The switch and mounting hardware should be the same for 68-78's.
