I went to take my '68 for a drive today. It took awhile to start up this morning, I though it might have been because I haven't really driven it for the past few weeks. then a few minutes into the drive I step on the gas from a stop light and it dies, takes a few second to start back up.. ran fine after that... on the way home I jumped on the freeway and it started sputtering really bad and could barely get to 50 mph, so I pull to the side of the freeway and it idled fine, I was able to get back on the freeway and it sputtered a few times then it was fine. I pulled off the air cleaner when I got home, pushed the accelerator and the was barely any gas spraying into the carb, started it up, idled fine but cuts out a little when stepping on the pedal, shut it off and checked the carb again, still very little gas coming out, could this mean a carb rebuild is in the future? or is the fuel pump going out...
Sounds like the accelerator pump needs some attention.

Your accelerator pump needs attention. A rebuild would be in order.
Good luck,

you guys got it right, took the carb off and opened it up, first of all the top screws were barely tight, and two of the metering rods were just sitting in the carb. removed the accelerator pump and it was cracked and brittle..
What really sucks about this is I cannot get a rebuilding kit anywhere locally, NAPA said they could order it and the cost was $25, but when he told me shipping would be $30... I thought he was ..
so went through a vendor and having one sent for
$32, it will take about a week, but can't beat that..
This looks like it gonna be one of those " while I'm at it" situations..
