I hope you guys don't think my hood is gay. I titled it broke back because of all the work I put into it and how my back is feeling this morning.
Prior to starting this I had modified a 81 z28 hood scoop to fit on top of the vette hood. This looked ok but just wasn't what I wanted plus I didn't know exactly how I was going to mold it on to the hood so that it didn't look bolted on. So I decided to start from scratch.
Using a dremel, I cut slots in the hood so that my bows would follow the existing line in the hood. I used some aluminum strips to form the shape and duct tape for the backing. Then I laid the fiberglass mat and applied the resin. When cured I peeled off the tape and put two more layers underneath the hood and finished the top with body filler. Looking back on this I could have cut the existing hood and just raised it but I had already cut a circle out of it for the z28 experiment.
My advice to anyone doing this would be to find something that wont sag like the tape, don't start without access to a belt sander and have a quality dust mask cause you are going to need it.

Looks like it should go onto the nose a bit, but not too bad. Good custom job .
I was thinking the same thing from the front view, but from the side view it blends perfectly with the slant of the nose. I think it'll look a lot different with some paint on it.

I see what you are talking about. I knew all along that the end of the hood was going to be hard to pull off. At one point I had considered doing a stinger type end but changed my mind. I will be fabbing a mesh screen to cover the opening by the cowl.
So you guys thing I should taper it down on out past the end of the hood? I will do some day dreaming on that one. Right now I am wrapping up the remaining chips and specks so that I can finish priming the car. It will feel real good just to get it to one color again.
Thanks for the compliments.

Yes, looks very good. Kinda reminds me of the viper scoop. I think going into the bumper would look cool too, but I think opening it may be a problem as the two pieces may hit each other.
From: Ville de la Baie Quebec. A winner is just a loser who tried again.
It does look good,, and will look better with paint,,, but I agree with the folks above,, I feel theres something not finished with the point,, the flow feeling is not there.
Custom work is hard to pull off - especially with Vettes - they just look so good stock. Some mods work and some don't. I like the profile of your hood and know you put a lot of hard work into this. However, as others have noted, it just doesn't look clean at the front of the hood.
It's easier to fix now than it will be after you paint it
Normally, I just keep my mouth shut if I don't have a compliment...and I'm not saying I don't like this but I agree it looks unfinished. I think what needs to happen is a Z06 style C6 front end opening cut into that thing. Or something like the viper...If you open the front of it up it's gonna be sweet.

One other thing I was trying to do was hide the fact that my hood curved down in the center. See how it is flush with the fenders but if you look at the line across the front edge you will notice how it changes in the center where the hood dips. By bringing the scoop to the end I was trying to cover that up.
I think the problem may be the center crease on the nose of the car contrasts with the smooth form of the scoop up front. Perhaps if that line were continued it would look better. I wander if some kind of stripe would give the desired effect.
I ain't feeling cutting it short to add an opening at this point. Unless you guys think adding a mesh screen of some type to the very end would do the trick.

That is what is throwing off the "finished" look. If you can crack that, it will be cool.
I Like what you have done.
I am thinking you need to carry that body line onto the hood, even just an inch.
Not sure a stipe would help.
I Think I would have the scoop to a point right at the end of the hood o meet the body line.
Hunchback? If you are referring to the appearance of a hump toward the front in the last pic that is the passenger side fender hump you are seeing. The scoop really isn't as big as the straight on shot makes it look. It is only 1.5" tall at the cowl; can't recall how much over stock it worked out to and it follows the origional line excactly until it gets forward of the tires. I purposely kept it low.
As for the color. I had decided on a dark pewter to match the cinnebar interior, which is in pretty decent shape so I don't want to change it right now. My painter (gator79) wants me to go yellow to make it easier on him, but after seeing the red he laid down on his 93 I may hold a gun on him and go pewter or black.
