Default 69 or 82 vette

I have a chance at getting a 1969 stingray Forrest green T-tops vette automatic 4, 88,040 miles for 18,600
-OR-
1982 vette silver cross fire injection of course Automatic 4 T-Tops 76,000 miles for 12,500
Both have almost no flaws in paint or interior the 82 has 2 small scratches I was just wandering what everyone thought I should get.
both are practically stock thanks guys hope this is enough info. I like performance but I like classic style as well lol

Flawless paint is the least of your concerns, do a search on "birdcage rust" Learn alot on this forum and then make your choice.

I Have a 69 & 77 I think the 69 will go up in value faster than the 82 if you are not purchasing for an investment, Then its a choice over metal bumpers or not

the 82 is a nice driver but it wont go up in value like the 69.i like my 82 but if i could get a 69 vert with a four speed and sidepipes at a price i could afford ,then the 82 would have to go to the back of the barn .buy what you like .

The leap form a '69 to an '82 is substantial. They may look very close on the surface but are very different just below the surface...we're talking 13 years of refinement.

I'm a fan of the '82 (see username) but really like the chrome bumper look/stance and of course raw performance of the 68 - 72 cars. I don't like the dash, seats and overall ride handling of the early cars. IMHO they later cars (80 - 82) have much nicer interiors and ride much better.

I've heard it put this way - drive 30 miles in a 69 and you'll feel like you've done 300, drive 300 in an '82 and you'll feel like you've done 30. I can tell you that my '82 is a more refined car - rides like a Cadillac if you will.

Best advice I can give you is to drive both cars, in town and at highway speeds. Put them side by side if you have the chance...I'll admit, the bumper car will win...but then get inside, sit back and you'll see the view over the hood and those wonderful fenders will be the same. Then look at the dash, interior - the '82 will start to grow on you.

Also, for what it's worth - I think the '82 is slightly over-priced and the '69 is slightly under-priced based on the info you've provided.

Regardless of which car you pick don't rush into this. Take your time and toughly inspect both cars, inside, out and underneath.

One last thing, I'd be remiss if I didn't cover Crossfire Injection in my post. Some folks recommend staying away from a Crossfire motor as they are problematic. I've driven/worked on Crossfires since 1998. If you understand them, don't want to mod them beyond headers/exhaust and maybe a cam, the crossfire is a great platform. Most folks pull the smog and sensors off and try to make it something it can never be. Out of the box it was and still is a great motor FOR ITS TIME...200 HP and 285 TQ were great numbers. If you're looking to mod the car, buy the '69.

i have an 82, and love it.
nothing beats the early vettes for power though.
imo, if you want a dd, buy the 82.
if you want something to drive once in a while, watch the value go up, buy the 69.

69 all the way for me! Wouldn't even consider the 82.
BUT, what are you looking for in a vette? Comfort or B@lls! That you need to answer.
Good luck, Glenn

Default Both Sharks but thats where the similarity ends

I have had a mint 72 Air Roadster, and a Mint 9K mile 82 CE, and a 85 4sp. In my opinoin the 69 and the 82 are two completely diferent Animals!

I love the look of the Chrome Bumper Cars. . . But the Interior

Not their fault, it was 1969. It is what it is.

Drive them both. . .again no comparison.

I could own any model I want, but I chose the 82 CE because I thought it was "Retro" enough to be "classic" but as someone already said "It has 13 years worth of additional refinment into it"

Much better fit & finish and a superior interior. But hey. . .

Buy what you like.

A 69 will never be an 82, just like an 82 will never be a C5.

If you read up on both years, your heart will tell you which is for you!

Then go for it and enjoy! Thats what they are for

The '69 is priced well and would be my selection. $12K for an '82 sounds a bit steep to me.

I have a '69 vert and did own a '78 Silver Anniversary L82. The '69 is a beast...no question. It takes effort to drive it, it has a very cranky engine and you have to control it all the time or it can bite you quick. The '78 was more refined, more comfortable, far more easy and pleasant to drive, easier on gas.

I needed to sell one of them...I still own the '69. It was by far the right decision.

I have a 69 coupe, so my judgement may be clouded, but I would take the 69 over the 82, conditions being equal. The 69 will appreciate more than the 82. If you are buying a vintage sports car, why would you let the interior amenities or the softer ride enter into your decision? If you want a comfy ride and nice interior tricks, buy a new one. Sports cars are supposed to be a little uncomfortable and stiff legged.
