I bought a blower motor resistor for my 2000 Z71 Silverado, General Motors box was stamped "Made in Slovenia", I remember being a kid and if it was "Made in Japan" it was considered crap, now ????? Peace,,,,Moosie
Not anymore. Thanks to globalization there are hundreds of places that can build the part cheaper than the USA. Price is king so if it can be built cheaper somewhere it will be and no one cares as long as the price is right.
I picked up a GM crate motor last week and the block is stamped Hencho en Mexico. Then there is a silver tag near the motor mount that says Made in USA. I'm so confused....
I guess it's nothing more then a big game with the big boys getting bigger by having there products made dirt cheap n we get the shaft because we don't know what were putting in our cars half of the time....Jerrylee///

They are just letting you know where that silver tag was made.
You can't always rely on the good old tried and true "brand" names anymore. You have to check where the item is being made now. I almost bought A/C Delco rotors assuming they were US or Canada made. Nope. The boxes said made in China. My Timken bearings were made in Poland. On and on it goes. Any time a company outsources or goes outside to have their parts "Manufactured to their exacting specifications" they give up a certain amount of quality control. But, not to worry, they will be happy to replace that defective ball joint (or whatever) with a new one should it prove bad. Why not? It only costs them a small fraction of what it used to cost when they were making them in the USA. They can send out a lot of replacements and still be way ahead of the game. Our wonderful global economy.
AC Delco heater cores are now made in Mexico, I bought an aftermarket one that was cheaper and made in Michigan. Very well made and fit perfectly! So no, AC Delco is not always the way to go if you want USA parts. I just want quality, I could give a crap who builds it. We are never going to get those jobs back here anyway as long as they keep chasing the bottom line!!
In the late 60s my brother and I had a speed shop in St Louis and most of the speed parts were made in USA, until mickey thompson whent to Japan for his parts and then it was all down hill after that, back then there was a 60% mark up on parts, wonder what it is now
I wouldn't be surprised if more than half of the parts in a US-made GM vehicle were purchased outside of US borders. Over half may be made in North America, but many of them would be made in Mexico and Canada. It's the same with all the other US-based auto "assemblers".

Of the four cars represented in NASCAR, only the Camry is built in the US.

Nope, they are not Chevy or Dodge, or whatever; they are NASCAR COT. They don't represent any car, other than a few decals. They should just call them the COT powered by GM or COT powered by Ford, or COT powered by Toyota.

When they quit using the Classic Chevy Small Blocks in production cars they moved the casting/foundry for it to Mexico.
After weeks of preping for my stroker build and the "should I or shouldnt I"... based on comments here on the forum I replaced the Professional Products Harmonic Balancer (made in China), which actually looks like a very nice piece of equipment, for a GMPP HB... Opend the box and yep....made in China! Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Hence the term "represented." They haven't been remotely related to the street cars in a long, long time.
