(with some exceptions)I remember reading some studies on oil temperature impact on engine wear. Basically, it stated that engine temps lower than 180 resulted in higher engine wear. So there is some balance between running too cold / hot.
That would make sense considering the "General's" first concern is controling their warranty claims. The thermostat would control the minimum operating temperature only (presuming it works and flows decent).
