Default Rechroming Headers

I've got a 69 with hooker 4 into 1 sidepipe headers. They have gotten discolored over the years and I'd like to refinish them either by rechroming them or painting them. The chrome still looks good where they connect to the sidepipes. Just the tubes in the enigne compartment look bad. Anybody have any suggestions? I'd just replace them but I don't want to spend 2,000. Thanks.

In order to re chrome them they would need to strip the old chrome polish then re chrome. I would assume it would be much cheaper to replace them.

If you look around the Hookers can be had for ~1000. You could easily get 400-500 for your old Hooks.

$1000-500= $500 out of pocket.

I have a set of ceramic coated SB Hookers that were used for 1 year. They are like new. $500 sounds good to me.

These are like new ceramic sidemounts for a SB. Less than 50 miles on them This includes the muffler pipe, no mufflers. Not sure where you can find them for $380 new. Ecklers has painted ones for $1400. That includes mufflers. Summit has ceramic coated sidemount headers priced at $799 w/o pipes or mufflers. Guess I may have to keep em in the garage

Another option you have is you can send them out to Jet-Hot and get them coated. Not only will it give them a new finish, you wont have to worry about them discoloring again or getting burned on the sidepipes.

Are the headers corroded/rusty? If not, save yourself a bunch of money and get some header chrome polish from a Harley-D motorcycle store. The discoloration comes off pretty easily with it, and the headers look like new. Your 'old' chrome isn't any different from 'new' chrome, if it's not damaged or rusted. Polish...rag...elbow grease......'new-looking' headers.
