I bought my 1980, thinking i would replace the springs, and brakes,
I have now re done the entire suspension (thanks to VBP), pulled the motor, put on new Brodix heads, cam, Dual quads, looking at getting a dewitts radiator, pulled the tranny, Trans go shift kit, looking at a torque converter, i am re doing the interior, replacing all the gauges, which are broken, getting new glass front and rear bumper covers.
Along that long way, i have messed up my share of parts trying to remove them, which has lead to hours of frustration and four letter words. But i keep at it weekend after weekend.
It can be frustrating at times, and sometimes downright maddening, but there is something that keeps me coming back to the garage, and clearly there is for you too (or you would have hung up your ratchets long ago) For me its the pride of getting in a good days work, that will one day lead somewhere worth wild.
So dont worry, as much as it seems, your not alone, everyone has setbacks. Peace

I have found that its helpful to at least spend some time in the garage, even if your not going to work on it. It helps to keep the momentum going. Even just to pick some stuff up, make a mental list of what you need to do, etc.

I replaced my intake and carb. Finally I figured out why it ran like crap...I managed to stab the dist. one tooth off...Now my headlights won't pop up. feckin vacuum lines.
I think most of us C3 owners that have had them for some time can say we've been there. I still don't have mine on the road and am close to the $10,000 in parts. It doesn't end there, once on the road then it's tires, etc. etc. Hopefully I can say one day that it was money well spent.
When I get done I probably could have paid for a Viper, but it still wouldn't be a chrome bumper big block vert. We definitely as a group probably need psychiatric help!
It's the old one thing leads to another syndrome but at least (hopefully) the parts suppliers love us.
On another thread, a discussion about the radiator shrouds, I advised that mine broke in about three pieces trying to get it out. I just priced them today for my '76. If I have the late '76 shroud it costs about $200......if I have the early '76 it is $560!!!!
Guess what I am pretty sure I have?? Yeah the expensive one. It is a never ending saga......
I have an early '76 too!! If you have your origional rear bumper and the corvette emblem is recessed into it, that's an early model. if it's glued on like the 77-79's, it's a late model.....
im just tryin to get mine on the road... 300 in parts and another 200 in tools, and ive only had it 2 months. (keep in mind the ad said 90% done....) ive had to fix the fuse panel (i literally had to bubba it for now) and ima have to bubba something for my front blinkers and grile to attach to because the guy never put it in and im not gonna reomve the whole front in right now (im moving to hawaii in october) i dont know what weekends yall are talkin about either..... im out there every night that i have something that needs fixing that i have parts too, even if im workin a 12 the next day (9-9). ill stay up till i cant think striaght, spend the whole next day at work lookin at Pt's and thinkin bout me vette... then go right back home and sit in the garage til its done. i work slow though too so i can show me wife what im doin
It's funny ( not really ) that we all have some problem of some sort when working on our vette. As mentioned, if you touch one thing it leads to another and another. The guy I bought the vette from dropped over 10K in the vette restoring it. Have over an inch thick binder full of reciepts. I just dropped over 10K with in this past 8 months. Maxing out the charge card. I owe my soul to the company store. When I get the vette running, there's still other things that needs to be done. WoW, no light at the end of the tunnel for me, at lease not yet. I'm the one with the radiator/shroud problem. Have to go downstairs and give it hell, again!

I was just gonna clean up a few things when I got back form the desert....needless to say...rotors, calipers, tires, e brake, front mono suspension, shocks, rear fiberglass spring, shocks and mounts, hooker sidepipes, pulled engine..... stroked it, ran it for 30 minutes, found oil and water dont mix, pulled it back out, cleaned it and will reinstall it this weekend, plus found stainless steel rad hoses dont work real well, then replaced them with OEM, fuel pump swap out, aluminum rad with dual spals....Hydra boost. I havent even started on the interior but it is bare metal now..... Oh and before I left I had just painted it red, now I think I like satin black... I wouldnt have it any other way though!!
I meant the switch for that light at the end of the tunnel.
Trust me I've been where you are, cargo.
i thought you mean the switch that originally broke and caused you to start the whole downward spiral. y'know.... the corvette BLACK HOLE, or "paradox", if you will.
This is just the typical thing that happens with fixing, rebuilding or restoring our cars. Like taking off a part to find it has a 1/2 inch bolt on one side and a 7/16 bolt on the other side. So do you then put the new part on with the 2 different side bolts, or go to the part store to get the correct size bolt, but then you will be out of time and cant finish the project today so it waits until next weekend.
