My wife and I were just talking about this the other day. Here in CT they have been really cracking down on enforcment of the window tint violations. Every week there are 3-5 arrests in the paper. But it never seems to be the "only" violation, if you know what I mean. I wonder how they measure how dark is too dark.
Having said that if Jersy dosen't care I think it looks excellent on a "personalized" or "Custom" vette (like yours) and a little "out of place" on an otherwise stock car.
If you drive it at night, or even as it is starting to get dark, you will regret it. Its real hard to see cars that have no lights on, and that just makes the tint dangerous. How do I know, I use to have tint.
With a dark color interior, go with dark tint on the back and light tint on the side. It will look good and it will be safer than dark tint on the side. I use to have dark tint on the side and i do prefer to have lighter now. Here they don't allow tint of any kind on the side anymore. I just kept the dark back window.
your in jersey-be careful. you can do it, but it can only be tinted to a certain extent.
if you get it done, you should get it done by a reputable place, that will be upfront about what is and isn't legal.
eventually the rear tint will seperate where the heating element is... it will only irritate you when you look through the glass, or the rear view mirror
mine had dark tint when I bought it and I ruined the defroster scraping the crap off
You may have a harder time talking your way out of a ticket if you have one strike aginst you as the officer approaches your car. I have had tint on a couple cars. In one case, legally done. In the other, a 76 vette, done by the PO, was definately illegal. However, it looked great and it did help with keeping the interior cooler. I am tempted to have it done on my silver 76 but just stick with a mild tint on the doors.
Beautiful car! I would not want to take away from the classic look of what you have already. I removed the dark tint from my '82 when I bought it and damaged the defroster in the processs due to the adhesive from the tint. It will eventually start to bubble and crack, and then the only thing you can do is remove it or replace it. Either way, you risk damage to the defroster. I chose to keep the original look on mine.

You have to decide if you want to look cool or enjoy driving. It is hard to enjoy driving at night if you can't see.
