Beautiful car! I would not want to take away from the classic look of what you have already. I removed the dark tint from my '82 when I bought it and damaged the defroster in the processs due to the adhesive from the tint. It will eventually start to bubble and crack, and then the only thing you can do is remove it or replace it. Either way, you risk damage to the defroster. I chose to keep the original look on mine.
I disagree. I love my tint and as long as you get quality tint and have it done by a quality shop, it will not bubble and crack. I've never had any problems with any of my cars that have been tinted. Most of the places nowadays have a lifetine warranty as well. Check your state laws for how dark you can go. I have mine as dark as the law allows and I have no problem seeing at night.
Let me clarify a little. I would not be getting super dark tint so it would not effect my driving. Secondley I would be getting the 3M tint which is pretty good.
Yep, I haven't seen any car that doesn't look good tinted. Goes against all my rational thinking on customizing!! Good tint is OK!
The only car I don't have tinted is the C3 and it comming. I would recommend the highest quality thats available. A lot of tyhe bargon stuff wants to lift and bubble. When I had my C4 done they used a one piece shrink-fit type of material with no seams on the back window. I'm not siure how it worked I just know it looked great and stayed black.
I have tint on both of our daily drivers and even drive them at and beyond dusk well into the night. Our laws say to use your lights at night (so we can see the other cars at night) I will agree that it lowers your visibility to a degree, but that depends on the level of tint. The reputable installers know the limitations.
If you stand beside the car and can't see the driver, you have gone too dark!
On my daily driver a pontiac vibe a got 5%(light that pass through) tint at the rear and rear side windows. Got no tint in front and it look good. It's a bit dark at night for backing up but you get use to. It's great for the lights of the cars that follow you, it doesn't blind you.

No attempt to sway your decision on my part, it's your decision that you have to live with, but I like the coloration of the glass on these cars. I find it's got kind of a bluish coloration to it. Anyway, I say no tint, because then it's harder for everyone to see the driver

Why dont you just go ahead and do it and if you decide you dont like it rip it off! Its not like its permanent....Thats what I did.
Wow, had no idea front side window tinting was illegal in NJ, but that would settle it for me.
A lighter tint would look good but not gonna invite the cops so I voted no.
My wife and I were just talking about this the other day. Here in CT they have been really cracking down on enforcment of the window tint violations. Every week there are 3-5 arrests in the paper. But it never seems to be the "only" violation, if you know what I mean. I wonder how they measure how dark is too dark.
Having said that if Jersy dosen't care I think it looks excellent on a "personalized" or "Custom" vette (like yours) and a little "out of place" on an otherwise stock car.
Just my 2cents.
Around here (Champaign, IL) the cops don't really bother with vehicles with tinted windows unless the need a reason to pull you over. I owned a black RX-7 convertible with tinted windows, and never got pulled over for it. When I asked a cop about the tint laws, I was told that the officer would use the fact that the windows were tinted if he suspected something else and wanted to pull you over. I plan on having the windows on my C3 tinted before summer hits. I love the look of tinted windows.
here in n.y.c. it is illegal to have any tint on your front side windows. (ask me how i know) i also haven't seen a vettes rear window look good .all the ones i've seen are all bubbled up. too large of a window to do without seems. cops in nyc have some sort of device they put on your window to measure the darkness but the back and rear sides can be as dark as you want
Here's a site you might check it lists window tint laws by state. I don't know if it's accurate or not and would suggest a call to you local State Patrol Post to be sure of the restrictions.
mid-america sells a pop-in tinted rear window shade that you can remove for state inspection. I purchased one (under $100) it looks great & keeps the hot sun off my black interior & the back of my neck.
