Default you know what SUCKS????

going out to start you car 2 days ago after a long winter nap and finding the battery completely dead even though you keep it on a slow charger all winter..........

you know what SUCKS even more????

charging the battery for 24 hours and having the car start right up then getting ready to go for a ride and finding the brake lights stuck on which is what drained the battery in the first place.

couldn't see that they were on every trip to the garage
because i had it backed in this year and the cover over it and the slow charge didn't put enough back in to equal what the lights were taking out........

got up under the dash to check the switch and found
that the 30 year old plastic had deteriorated to the point that the back of the switch popped right out and was just hanging there making contact and draining away.

needless to say i don't know when it happened but for $8 at least its a cheap fix.....

moral to this story--------- check that old switch first chance you get

One reason I use a battery minder and a battery disconnect over the winter. I use the battery disconnect everytime the car is parked....but at least you found your problem.

At least your solution was quick and easy. Most electrical drain problems on C3's tend to give fits to owners and are responsible for drinking problems...at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I think your lucky,, your electrical problem could have ended with a fire. That is why when putting your car asleep for a few months, disconnect the battry.

I had a battery draining issue last year. I was going nuts trying to find a drain on it. Finally, I decided to take the batter to have it tested. Turns out, it was a bad battery. Got a new one, and problem solved! Luckily not an electrical issue!

Glad you got yours fixed so easily and cheaply!

Hey Rich...good to see you're feeling well and playing with the beast!

Glad you fixed it...the cruises are coming up fast! I had mine sitting from late December until last weekend with the battery disconnected. Went out for a quick ride last weekend and she fired up without any hesitation. I was pretty psyched, but also wondering why I bought a battery tender if 1. I don't use it and 2. I don't seem to need it?

Looking forward to shreddin' the township...S

i don't usually have to because it is driven at least twice a month in the winter, with my neck problems
this year i didn't get a chance to do that and just didn't think about disconnecting.

Steve
still cant lift anything heavy but the steroid shots in the neck helped a whole lot, im back to about 80% and almost ready to put the replacement heads on that i bought from Gordon last year.
i have about 6 people that have offered to set them in place and torque them down for me once i get the car ready.

so all i can say is come on 60+ weather so i can start working.
