Default Tires

My 71 has Goodyear Eagle ST tires on it.255/60-15 they seem a little wide ,looks cool but .Does anyone have a good choice? BFG`s ,etc and what size should I get?

Chevrolet didn't authorize 60 series tires on the Corvette until the 1978 model year. It's a car by car thing for them to fit a pre-'78 without rubbing.

What should be appropriate for your car is a P215/70R15...that's equivalent to the original F70-15 bias ply tires original to a '71. If you have no clearance issues with 60 series, stick with them if you like.

As far as what make tire, you'll open a real can of worms asking that. We all have our own likes and dislikes when it comes to tires. For me, I have experience with BFG Radial T/A's, Cooper Cobra's and Dunlops. All are excellent. Others will likely give other opinions to consider.

I have used BFG Radial TAs with good results, and my "new" 78 has Firestone Firehawks on it, and they seem decent so far. Another idea is to go to Tirerack.com. Put in the size you are looking for, then read the customer reviews for the specific tires that come up. You can get a good overall idea how well the tire stacks up.

i think we all know how to do a search (at least i would hope). but sometimes it's just quicker and easier to post - you can ask the specific question you want and get an anwser in no time.... whereas with searching sometimes you've gotta wade through a bunch of old stuff to find what your looking for. personally, for a straightforward question like that, i don't even mind anwering it. even if it IS weekly. takes about 30 seconds to type it out. all in the name of helping out another c3 bro

to answer your question - as stated, on your car 255/60's all around is a car by car basis. if you don't rub as is than you're fine. if you really want to play it safe go with 245/60's - at least in the front. YES originally they were about the size of 215/70s but recognize that you may not like the way that looks (albeit original).

I guess because you are a life long member of "3 months" you have the right to police the forum.
The majority of the members on this forum are more than happy to help a fellow member regardless how redundant the question.
This forum has been a very valuble source of information and most of the people have been great!
The forum would have far less participants if everybody had your attitude!!!

so many have already gone for these reasons I believe.

ndmic,
Go to a tire shop in your area and ask them to mount a 255 and a 245 on the front for you. See what issues each may cause, I agree with most the 245 is your best bet.

Nick, my avatar shows 255 BFG's all around. They don't stick out beyond fender lips and they don't rub inside. I have heard others say they've had rubbing problems.
