Default Lock Cylinder-1971

Is there a way of getting the ignition cylinder out of my 71' when it is locked and you have no keys?????

I purchased the car with no keys and the cylinder was not locked. I had purchased a new lock cylinder and matching door cylinders. Well, the other day I was trying to start the car while poking my head through the door and I accidentally turned it to lock. If there is anyone that can help me figure this out without going through a locksmith, it would be much appreciated.

You can remove and replace your lock cylinder without the key. You didn't mention if you had a T&T column or a standard (non-adjustable). There are two sets of instructions depending upon the type of column.

Go to: www.corvettefaq.com
Click on Jim Shea's Steering Papers
Click on Corvette Steering Papers
Scroll down to the Standard Steering Column or the T&T Steering Column section
Download the appropriate Disassembly & Repair Paper #1
Download the appropriate Disassembly & Repair Pic #1

You should have complete instructions on removing and replacing the lock cylinder.

Some instructions say that you need the key and the cylinder in the RUN position. I am sure that you do not need the key to remove the cylinder.

If you have a standard steering column the following two links may help you with the steering wheel and horn parts:

If you have a T&T column this link may assist you with the telescope lock, steering wheel, and horn parts.
