has anyone ever used one of these as a replacement. if so could you install it with the regulator in the door or does it have to come out. and is it made out of quality material that will last and not tear up anything else?
OK, I read Moosie's thread and didn't find the answer I'm looking for. I was speaking to local Corvette Shop owner and mentioned that I needed to rebuild my left regulator. He said the job isn't that difficult to do, but he highly recommended using a replacement steel gear, NOT the stainless gear most venders are selling as a replacement. He says the stainless gear will chew up the gear on the motor.
Whats everyone elses opinion/experience with this?
The stronger than stock aftermarket gear is best. The issue w/ the SS gear repair piece is that you can expect the narrow teeth to cut into the motor gear. No special tools to remove assembly however remember that spring is stiff so be careful & watch out for your fingers.
Welding is needed to remove & install the gear.
