Default Just Bought a New '75 Vette

I'm 17 and I just got a brand new Vette. I'm a little disappointed with only 165HP. Corvette and 165HP is like an oxymoron. I just have a few questions though:

Should I restore, or go custom? What's more worth it in the long run? If I am looking for sheer value, restoring it would be better right? But isn't that hard to take care of? To be honest with I kind of thing the whole oldie's look is kind of ugly. No offense I know some of you grew up in it. I'd love to go custom and put in modern racing seats, the whole works. My dad however wants to restore it because he says this car is like an artifact and I would be defacing the value if I changed it the way I wanted to. I also wanted to boost the power (I REALLY hate 165HP) . My friends' Hondas are sporting 250HP. My parents are against any changes and say this is a cruiser.

So restore or custom? What's more worth it?

and just keep in mind, Your "the kid with the vette" not one of the million of the run of the mill honda's

i got the be that kid in high school (last year lol) and it was GREAT, nothing sounds like a chevy 350!

and congrats on the new car!!! got any pics?

Good Luck on your project.
The way I look at it it's your car and you can fix it any way that you like and makes you happy cause in the long run it's your money!!!

Welcome to the forum. If you like cars and turning wrenches you picked a fun car.

I vote for custom but that's what I like to do. I bought my first Vette when I was 18 and it opened my eyes to a whole new world.

Also, if you have a good job, can save some money, and throw some coin at this new Vette you can get upwards of 300 HP at the wheels with a simple top end rebuild and better exhaust.

Nobody ever bought a '75-82 Corvette for the horsepower rating.

They are great cruisers though.

Whatever you do, like PhyscoVette said, do it because it makes you smile when you drive it.

if it's your money. Now, if you dad bought it for you and him to work on and you to drive, I think you need to stick with what he wants. Otherwise, do what you want with your money.

Definitely man, I plan to make a diary of everything (Pictures with captions with recordings of modifications.) It'll be nice to look back at when I'm 40 years old.

Custom! (or whatever makes YOU happy). I have a 79 and couldn't deal w/ that HP. I'm working on it, but it'll be near 300 at the wheels b/f too long (although I have a slightly upgraded crate engine in it, so I'm kind of cheating). Good luck!

Welcome aboard!! It was almost this time last year I posted the same message, congrats on the 75! I'd say this forum is one of the best finds you'll ever make for your new ride, it has helped me a TON. Before you know it you'll be looking for your daily fix

As far as stock/custom, I wouldn't worry too much about our particular year being much of a collector (except the convertibles).. much more of an issue for chrome bumper guys. I'd say that's a good thing for us we have a clean slate to do whatever we want. As far as those hondas go, your car could be in 100 pieces in the garage and it will have more class and appeal than they could ever hope to.. not to mention we all know which one will turn more heads with the ladies...good god, why wasn't I smart enough to have a vette in high-school

I'd go with what you feel and whether it's restored OR custom? it'll still be better then what all the other 17 yr olds are driving imo

Welcome aboard! All good questions to be answered by yourself. Not to sound negative but the value is determined by the individual. Some will say stock, some custom. Ask yourself what you want! Then you'll have the answers.

Don't let the 165HP get to you. GM rated them low for various reasons such as insurance co and emissions.
