Me and my brother just bought another 68 roadster with ~60000 miles on it
It was bought in CA by a guy from my country in 1988, who toke it back with him to europe when he went home. It has then been standing undriven in his garage for 20 years. Its should be a matching 350 HP 327 with auto, PS, PB, PW, silverstone silver paint, gummetal interior. The owner has had it started a few times every year.
A few pictures...
Why are there tape on both rear body mounts?
Luckily, birdcage cancer was not a problem on this one
Yes thats correct. But the seller said he still has the original steering wheel along with the original longstyle vacuum actuator for the wiper cover. I'll get them when he finds them... :-)
Thanks, the body tag says 'gunmetal'. My native language is not english so I didnt know how 'gunmetal' looks
The oil gauge goes directly over 70 when it is started. Anybody know why?
I plan to do the following before the car is test-driven
- change of oil (and filter) in engine, transmission, rear axel
- Brake test
- cooling system check
Are there other things I should do before I drive it? Remember the car has almost not been driven in 20 years
How about the front/rear wheel bearings, should they be disassembled and regreased?
Does the oil pressure come right down from 70 or does it stay there? have you let the car idle long enought to warm up to temp?
I think I would pull the valve covers and verify you have oil getting to the top end before running it. Remove covers, disconnect coil and turn the motor over to see if oil is pumping to the top end. If you're getting oil then its probably the gauge or sending unit.

Thanks I will do that.
If I remember correct then the oil pressure goes up from 0 to 70 when I start it and down from 70 to 0 when I turn it off.
No, I have not let it idle long enough in case that there was something wrong.
Amazing condition for a car that's sat for 20 years. Great find. Go through it throughly. I'd guess that the brake calipers are shot so be VERY careful when you first drive it. Also I'd check and replace if needed, the radiator hoses, rubber brake lines going to the calipers, the rubber fuel hoses to the fuel pump, fan, power steering pump, and alternator belts. Anything rubber sitting that long will most likely be dried out.
Good luck with it.
