How hard do you think it would be to get a room now? I was planning on going this year with my dad, and wanted to know if its too late to even get a room close to the grounds. I'm probably screwed now, but I thought I'd ask some of you guys who go there annually. This will be my first time. Thanks for all the help, I hope this thread doesn't sound stupid
I always stay in shippensburg, it's like 30 minutes or so south of Carlisle. It's got a mall, movie theater and some restaurants in walking distance to the hotel. I trailer the car to the hotel, then make the 20 minute drive in the car to the show each morning.

All the motel/hotel in Carlisle will be booked by now - they start booking as soon as last years show ends. If you go out 20 - 30 minutes, you should find something. I stayed in Mechanicsburg once - about 20 minutes.
It will be difficult to get a room in Carlisle now, not to say that their aren’t any left
So your next best bet is find a room in Harrisburg which is a short drive but you will have to fight traffic coming into Carlisle on Rt. 11 or you can camp out right next to the fair grounds and they have bathrooms and showers to use on the grounds
It's been about 10 years since I've been going. The first few years I didn't make reservations at all, and still managed to sleep somewhere- although one year I slept in the truck!
You may still find a place in town but you will pay 4-5x the normal rate and Carlilse isn't Palm Springs. I found a place in Mechanicsburg, the trick is to get up and be at the park by 6:30 am otherwise you're stuck in traffic.
Don't expect to find any super deals but you will see a lot of cars, parts and every vendor there. I usually stay at my spot now, I missed walking around last year but the heat was brutal.
Bring cash and remember everything is jacked up that weekend.

So do you think its worth even going now? I just checked mapquest, and my sister's boyfriend lives 2.5 hours away (but then again, that's going the speed limit )
Where's a good place to stay? Any suggestions guys?
I had booked a room at Carlisle North Super 8 Motel, 1800 Harrisburg Pike. Had to cancel at the last moment but I think they said they were only a couple miles from the fair grounds.
Good luck.

Yes, it's worth a weekend trip to see it. Now from your location that would be your call.

There are numerous cancellations every year in Carlisle area motels. My advice would be to get onto a waiting list at one or more Carlisle motels. Something will open up. It really is alot more fun being in town. It's a four day car show and party
i have gone 3 times on a friday ( live in central jersey ) leave about 5 stop for food get there about 9:30 then leave about 6 long day but i like it. Spend a lot of time looking for parts.
