I got a couple of Kenwood 10" woofers and a Kenwood amp on sale this past weekend. So I built this box to mount in the Corvette. I know it's not in keeping with my efforts to lose weight, this thing weighs 40lbs, but I used cigarette lighter plug connections for power and RCA connectors so that I can quickly disconnect and remove the box. Also, I can still store my t-tops back there. I'm still installing the Alpine head unit, so I'll have to report on the sound later.

dont use the cigarette lighter for power to the amp..... you'll burn it up..
just run an 8 or 10 gauge hott wire and ground wire and have a quick disconnect block for them...
i almost burned up my cavalier back in the day from not right the right sized hott wire and ground

I'm not using the cigarette lighter, I used cigarette lighter plugs for quick disconnect. The amp is wired directly to the battery with some pretty healthy wires.
The contacts on a cigarette "plug" aren't big enough nor the plug reliable enough for the connection to your woofer system. You'd be better off using a standard 110v lamp plug and socket set; a standard wall socket on the box and lamp cord plugs to connect to it. There are better choices than that 'simple' approach, but at least it will carry the necessary current and the plugs won't fall out due to vibration.
Here is what I use for anything portable or removeabl that requires more than an amp or two. Its an Anderson SB175 series, you need 2 of these. They are polarised so you can only hook it up one way and they are tough and handle a lot of current with no heat build up. Waytek has them

OK, OK, I'll so something about my battery power quick disconnect. I thought I had a good idea, and I had these lighter plugs laying around. You guys keep me straight.
I installed the Alpine head unit last night and got to listen to my new sound system. Daaaaang this sumofabiscuit hits. I only went with 10" woofers because they were on sale with the amp but man do I have bass now. I had to dial it back. I've got more bass than my truck. The Alpine does a great job driving the dash speakers too. The kidds will be very proud of the old man. I finished late so I haven't done the ultimate test yet, putting this sound up against my Flowmasters. Loud color, loud exhaust, loud sound system. Tell me I'm too old. Everyone will hear my Earth Wind and Fire today, and maybe a little War. Huh? Baby, did you say something? Something is wrong with my hearing. I gotta go clean up my office, see ya.

Does the car rattle really bad when you turn it up? I installed two kicker 10's in my 82, went through all the trouble building the box and hated it.....I took it out after 15 minutes of playing it.
Partially the rattle and partially because it took up more room than I planned. These are the only pics I took.
I drove the car to the beach today. The sound system definitely is louder than the flowmasters, except when I put my foot in it. The two go together really good. The sound quality is quite good. I've never had adequate bass in the Vette, but I do now. I took it up to 100+ mph with the tops out, and all you hear is the beautiful music. I'm happy. No it doesn't rattle. And I stowed the tops back with the woofer box.

I've been living with this for a couple of weeks now. I'm still happy except for two things. 1)Two 10" woofers is too much. I could have gotten away with one 10" I have the woofer amp dialed way down, and the bass output of the head unit way down, and still if you crank the volume up, the sub woofer overpowers.
2) Don't stow your glass tops back there. If it is a beautiful day, stow them in the garage. Or leave them on the car. I broke another glass t-top. I have yellow tops, and they should be on the car.
