Default 73 Tires

Hello,
I know there are a lot of tire posts out there but I do not see many on 73's. So I am looking for a little more info.

I was just wondering what tire size the 73 owners have had or have on their car. Or if you are not a 73 owner and know what tire size I could put on mine. I do not know whether to stay original or how wide I can get them without any rubbing.

Appreciate your help.

225-70 R-15 is a close match to the GR-70-15 originaly on a 73. If you go to 60 series you can go wider than 70. You need to try them before you buy as the condition of the springs if worn out and setting lower can change what will fit.

Mine have 255-60-15 and they rub, other C3s do not rub.
Seems to me it is best if you can try them out at the tire shop before you buy just to make sure.

I had 245/60/15 on all corners with no rubbing with late 70's factory mags. Be careful with the size and backspacing of your rims. I am trying to go to 15x8.5 with 3.75 inch backspacing (instead of the 4 inch stock backspacing) and I am having rubbing issues.

As stated on the 15 inch tire review thread, 245/60/15's are hard to find

Thinking of going with either 225 like original or 245. Seems like most owners have not had problems with 245's. Is their much of a difference between the two kinds? I only drive the car a few times a month so I do not know if I will be able to tell much of a difference in the two.
Any reason why choosing a 245 over 225?
Anybody else running 245 with issues or not?

Today I went to the used tire shop and got a 235/60/15 tire mounted one of my rims. I put them on the front and it did not rub. I then got some completely trashed 255/60/15 tires and mounted them on my rims and put them in the back. They were a hair too big with my 3.75 backspace and 15x8.5 rims. What was also interesting is that rear fenders are not symmetrical, one side stuck out further than the other. I was told later this is fairly common. If the 255s had fit in the back and the 235s in the front, I might have gone with that combination. But utlimately I went with 245/60/15 all the way around. I have a slight rubbing issue on the front right that I will take care of tormorrow. I wanted to have all 4 the same, I felt the 235/60/15s were too small for the rear. However, I initially wasn't to thrilled with the 245/60/15 size because there are very very few options when it comes to that size. In the long run I may go to a 17 inch rim but I don't have the cash to do that at the moment.
