Default Need Help Quick!

I have brake fluid all over the front of my car. I'll explain later. What should I use to get it off the paint before it ruins it?

While I'm waiting here in suffering for an answer...I was bleeding my rear brakes using the Motive Power Bleeder system. I pumped it up to 7 psi. The next thing I know, I hear something squirting on the floor. The $T&^%$R@ hose on the Motive tank that connects the jug to the adaptor sprang a leak and was shooting fluid all over my front fender. The hose had a split in it; it didn't come off.

I bought this thing about 1 year ago. If you have one of these, CHECK THE CHEAP *** HOSE ON IT!. I plan on flaming the company when I get this mess cleaned up. Hope my paint isn't ruined.

Boy I feel your pain, I did the same thing but caught it in time before it hurt the paint....like seconds later! I got it off with cold water first then immidiately with liquid soap and more water and a sponge. But man you have to act fast. I'm no expert but this worked for my situation.

Wow, that about sucks, I'd try some car wash soap first, like you use to wash the car, maybe warm water, dunno but I hope everything works out for you and your paint. Peace,,,Moosie

Thanks guys. I've calmed down and think I have it under control. I used the dish soap, cold water and rinse. Also McGuire's cleaner step 1 in the red bottle. It's over cast and not too bright in the garage. I'll have to wait and see if the finish has any damage. Now I just have to clean up all the brake fluid on the floor. I hate brakes! Is there a better system than the Motive power bleeder? It's always been messy at the master cylinder because it invariably leaks some and drips down onto the clutch shaft and firewall. I hate brakes, did I mention that?

I've heard that it can be used with the jug empty, just used to pressurize the master cylinder, and if you keep track of your withdrawal you won't run the MC empty...can anyone confirm this?

Steve

PS: I also hate working on brakes, and of course, every one of my (too) many projects needs the brakes bled. I have a new Motive bleeder, but haven't yet used it.

Like mentioned just above, pressurize the tank DRY first and watch the gauge for pressure drop for about 10 minutes first. THEN put the fluid in the tank. And throw away those stupid chains and use a c-clamp or 2 to mount the adaptor. Some guys use one clamp with a block, I use just the two clamps. I have found that sometimes I need to loosen instead of tighten the c-clamps I use to get a good seal.
I feel your pain on the spill! I once kicked a can of lacquer thinner that was sitting in front of one of my Vettes. Thinner went straight up into the air and landed on the headlite surround area! Luckily I had a clean rag in my pocket and was able to blot it up real quick. Left some drip stains but weeks later they rubbed out with just wax.

I know its late now but speed bleeders were a whole lot easier. Maybe Im stupid but when I think of brake fluid every ware I shudder. I installed them and bled the whole system in an hour. Not one drip. My system is totally clean
