Default Steering column paint question

I'm finishing up refurbishing a T&T column. Interior will be black, figured on semi-gloss black for the column. Problen is no one seems to carry semi-gloss black. So what do you guys think - gloss black, black metalic, or satin black?

Thanks

Jim

I am planning on Satin Black, I really like the look of that finish.

Try and find some SEM TRIM BLACK, its semigloss,,,, you will only find it at auto paint stores, it comes in a a rattle can.

Satin will look closest, if you can't find "trim" black or semi-gloss black. Actually, I think satin would be pretty close to the original sheen of the column paint.

Krylon semi-flat from Walmart.

IMO, it's just as good as the SEM.

So I decided to go with the satin black. Used Krylon fusion, their paint that sticks to plastic. The finish came out really nice. I disassembled to column to the tilt head, glass beaded everything and cleaned everything that didn't come off.I also modified the 78 column to fit in the 70 dash opening based on Jim Shea's write up, hope that measurement is right
It was pretty close to what I got with a tape measure so I folloew Jim's instructions.

Here's a couple of pics:

The column cover before modifications

After

Now I just need to do something with the steering wheel :o I have some SEM black interior dye left over from another project. I'll have to see if it's good still

They're all on the corvettefaq.com website under Jim Shea's steering articles

That trim that you did to the column looks right to me. I trimmed a 79 column to fit in my 72 and it looked the same. The fit was good also, and if you are off by a little bit it will be covered by the dash anyway, or you could put a rubber insert in if you came up short. The tilt/tele column makes a tremendous difference in the driving experience - you will love it!
