On my 68 with standard shift, the shift console plate has a small crossed flag emblem on the bottom. close to the parking brake console.
The black, white, and red colors on those little flags has faded out.
Has anyone tried to paint these little flags (probably need a pin or toothpick to do it) and what paint did you use that was the exact color so it doesn't look like Bubba did it?
Thank you,
Kurt

DZRick,
It is extremely small; Are you sure it even comes off the shift plate?
The 68 emblem is not like the later ones with the horsepower rating and engine size.
I was not aware that it came off.
Do you know where you can buy this emblem if in fact it is removable?
Thanks
Kurt
I'm going out to grab my spare to get some pictures but I think they are riveted on. Deleted what I thought and advise going with Mr.Willcoxs directions.
I doubt pictures would be of any use but if you need them let me know.

Reason: getting rid of bad info
Years ago, I air brushed the color back on one of these emblems PITA.
I also tried thinning out paint and dripping it on in real thin coats. PITA
Trying to air brush something so small is next to impossible for me (maybe a professional could do it), and using the thin paint method seemed to work decently.
Neither looked perfect when done, but it was my only alternative.
The original emblem is riveted in place and it is very fragile! When installing a new emblem should you purchase one, be very careful when you push it on. The new rivet should pass through the hole with ease and then use your finger to hold it in place and take a Phillips screw driver and open up the new rivet to hold it in place. Trying to mash the rivets will only break the new emblem, you only need it open enough to hold it.
I used a Dremel to remove the rivets on the old emblem and secured the new one in place by using epoxy on the back side of the console plate around the rivets

I think I will be taking 427 six pack's advice and doing mine this summer. My interior is all original and looks great except for that stupid faded set of flags. Those tiny model brushes and a magnifying glass should work.
As long as you keep the paint within the little squares on the checkered flag, you shouldn't have to worry to much about using a magnifying glass. Any sloppiness that may end up on the borders between the panels or on the raised edges of the the red flag can be removed with a razor blade. That is how I did my crossed flags. They came out looking good.
This is my first attempt at what my daughter calls a funny! No one take it personal, but I need a magnifying glass just to put the key in the ignition!

The magnifying glass is for my eyes At 54 I'm just getting to the point where I am having a little trouble seeing the fine print. Everything else is working OK

Eyes? Here I thought my arms were getting shorter.
