after driving my 72 bb i parked in garage and there was a puddle of anti freeze that came out the overflow tank hose. never did it before and i didnt add lately. didnt do it when i was driving it dont think because my driveway was dry. temp. was in normal range.
Sometimes they just puke out a little. Maybe ran a little hotter, fan belt is slipping on the water pump, etc. Check out everything. If it is just a small amount, keep a eye on it, and it may be OK. Worse case senerio, head gasket.
I cleaned the surface where the rubber seal of the cap meets the radiator. Also, cleck the rubber seal on the cap for tears. I had a tear however, cleaning stoped the leakage.
ill check cap but it came out of overflow hose on overflow tank, not from cap. it came out after car was shut off.
Corvettes prior to '73 did not have 'overflow' tanks. If you are referring to an aluminum tank separate from your radiator but with a radiator pressure cap on top, that's an expansion tank. Very different animal than an overflow tank.
Most common reasons for puking after shutdown
1) the system is over filled and is seeking it's own level
2) weak radiator cap that cannot hold the peak pressure in the system after shutdown.

yes, its the aluminum tank. i checked the cap and it does have some gouges in rubber seal . can this be problem ? its original cap, where do i get a good replacement ? from GM? also the level is hard to see but its at bottom of tank. manual says it should be 3 inches from neck which seems to be at close to bottom. thanks.

That's probably it. Any parts store can supply a functional replacement. If you want an exact replacement for judging purposes the usual suppliers would have the closest available.
Filling the tank any higher than recommended is fruitless. It does not help the car cool any better and only serves to reduce the amount of airspace required to absorb the pressure increase after shut down. Most people don't realise that the cooling system reaches it's highest pressure AFTER shut down due to soak back heat from the engine.
The rubber seat of the cap holds a tight seal on the seat of the radiator neck until the internal tank pressure exceed that of the caps rating. If the seal is torn or gouged, some seapage will occur even though the pressure does not exceed the caps pressure. Chevy dealership here in CA did not have a direct OEM replacement. I purchased a new one from ZIP. Their web site is listed to the left.
Not a great replacement from ZIP. If you're looking for original, the orginal seams to be a pressed part (cap housing with pressed lettering). The replacement fron ZIP was engraved/etched. Looks ok but, I can spot the difference with bad eye sight at 20 feet. We'll see if it holds this weekend. At least the lead from in it from China should not hurt the system. I guess it is better than the local auto parts store.
Any beeter matched out there guys?
