Default The New Project

I posted in the intros forum, but thought that I'd post up over here too. I just picked up an '81 over the weekend as my project. It needs some work, but looks to be a good starting point (rust free frame/birdcage, have to love Texas cars). Bad pics in the dark garage is all I have right now, but expect routine updates.

First up will be rebuilding the trailing arms and give the front suspension a once over. After that and getting the horn contacts sorted out, it should pass inspection and be drivable. Then interior, paint, etc.....

That's awesome Nate. Looks like you have some nice after market GT wheels to work with there. Don't see those very often and when I do I look twice.

Fill your profile out when you get a chance so we can see where you're from and what you do. We're a big happy community and like getting to know one another.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks, I'm an accountant for what it's worth, but I'll leave that off of the profile, I just do that to be able to buy parts anyway.

I was really pleased with the wheels, they are made by Progressive, not sure of the model name, but there are not too many aftermarket wheels that I like on C3's, and these turned out to look really good, IMO, which is helpful, one less thing to have to buy to get the project complete, to the extent that such a thing is possible.

I have been working on cars since I started out with my first problem child that I bought when I was 15 (1986 Mustang SVO) that required constant wrenching to keep running. I have done a lot of suspension work on everything from a '66 Mustang re-build to lift kits on old and new trucks to re-bushing my last project ('94 Z28, PITA), which is helpful since this car hunts worse than Elmer Fudd.

The car is a parking brake overhaul and horn contact away from being able to technically pass inspection. As I understand it, if you are going to go through the trouble of getting all of the parking brake sorted, you might as well get the trailing arms rebuilt too, so that is job #1. Luckily, I'm just up the road from a shop that has good recommendations from folks on this site that will go unmentioned since I don't know how the mods/admins feel about non-sponsor discussion, but they did come up before.

The big thing to tackle after that is to find someone to repair a couple of ~6" cracks in the rear deck fiberglass and then on to paint and interior.

So you will all be hearing a lot from me over the coming months/years, I have been lurking for the past few weeks, and this seems like a good group with some very knowledgeable posters, so thanks in advance for your help and stay tuned for progress pics.

LOVE the rims and tires. If you ever want to sell them, let me know.

Great project car. Can drive it while you fix it! Always loved those slotted aluminum mags. I had those on a 69 Impala vert. Look great on a vette!
