I just registered on this forum to get some very much needed information from all you vette enthusiats. I hope someone can be of help. My late husband owned a 1972 what he called 454 big block with t tops I believe. Sadly due to illness and other problems the car has been very much neglected for about 15 years. It was supposed to be kept in a friends garage but the "friend" put it outside in the elements and thats where it has been since. This friend just called and said he wants it off of his property and thinks he can get $1000. for it. I have a feeling even in very bad shape the car might be worth more but I'm just trying to get a handle on how much. I want to know if it's worth having it towed out of there. I have a sick feeling that I may be about to be taken advantage of and I'm just trying to get some info so I know what I'm dealing with. Thanks to any that can help.
The best thing to do is to quickly find someone who is knowledgeable about this era of Corvette, and also ethical, to look at the car with you to help you to decide how to proceed. If you'd be comfortable posting your general location you'd probably get some suggestions about finding that person.
Regards,
Alan
PS: Your husband's car could have a wide range of value, so you really need some informed help at this point.
Thank you for all the advice. One person asked my location. I am in northwest CT. I called a local Corvette garage...Royals... to tow the car on a flatbed to his shop. He has been in business in my small town for decades so I have hope that he is an ethical dealer and will be able to help with a valuation. If anyone here knows of others in the area I could talk to I would welcome that information too. I'll also try to get more info on the car and post some pics as well. Again, thanks to all that responded.

There are many knowlegable persons on here, so if you could post a description and pics, and also describe what the shop says about it, you could get a fairly good idea what it's worth. $1000 is way too low, in my opinon.
The best thing, as mentioned earlier, is to have a knowledgable Corvette person go look at it. There really are dozens of things to evaluate in order to come up with a fair price for both parties. Wish I lived closer, but I bet someone on here can help you if you want.
A 2nd or 3r opinion might also make you feel more comfortable about what price you do settle on.
I just have to say that I feel truly blessed that I found this forum. I have never experienced such a kind and thoughtful group of people willing to help. Thank you all so much for your kind words and advice and offers of assistance. I will certainly be getting in touch and taking your advice to heart. Again thanks so much to all that responded.
