Default harmonic balance

I have a stock 74 with the 8.5 350 and a piece of rubber is coming out of the harmonic balancer.

The guys at work say I'll have to transfer weights from the original, but the guy at the auto parts store says just to bolt on what he hands me.

Advice please, I don't want to tear this thing up.

As I said in your other thread, which you don't need two of, you have to replace that balancer. You cannot repair it once the rubber starts deteriorating and peeling out.

You don't "transfer" anything from one to the other. Just replace the damaged one with the correct part for your engine. [That may not be the generic one the auto parts place suggested.] China can make something that looks like a harmonic balancer, but the rubber likely isn't the right formula that provides the correct damping qualities nor will it last for 35 years [like the original].

I went with the ATI "Super Street Damper" on mine. Great product and made in the USA. A lot of the aftermarket dampers are being made in China now and quality is not always what it should be. Bought mine from Jegs. Summit carries them also.
