I need to replace a seal that is leaking. I have it broken down and ready to remove the old seal. I looks like there is a metal seal that is keeping me from taking out the piston, spring etc to install new ones. Does anyone know what tool or method to use to remove.
If you're talking about the seal that is around the caliper piston, the easiest way to remove it is to take a slot screwdriver, push it into the rubber seal from the inner (piston) side to the metal seal (outer) side and just pry upwards. Should pop right out.
Remember that these are only dust seals. If there are leaks coming out, it is from the piston seals and merely leaking out of the dust sheilds. Replacing these won't solve the problem. I would also suggest upgrading to o-ring pisons and seals from VB&P. I think they work better and are certainly idiot proof to install. The lip seal (stock) type are not.
