I need to replace the horn button on my 70, non tilt column. I pulled and nothing, so before i break something... does it pop off, twist off? Also... why do they have a specific style with the flag, being white or black in the corner?
wiggle it while pulling and the horn button should just pop off. As for the flags... I think the black cornered one is original and the white corner is reproduction.... may be vice versa... as to why they aren't made exactly the same... man you got me...
You might do a search for Jim Shea... he is the guru on all things with the steering wheel and column... great papers and write ups...
I just received a replacement one from Zip Products labeled as 68-76, has a GM Restoration Parts Sticker on it w/ # B00970; upper square is black. Zip Part # SC-300. The one in my '70 had a big crack in the lens.
I should try and label this picture.
The three parts should be called the horn cap assembly. The upper most part would be the cap, then the emblem, then the retainer. The retainer part of the assembly snaps into the horn contact.
The cap is die cast with three posts on the underside. The emblem and the retainer assemble to the posts. The posts are spun over to retain all three pieces. The posts and spinning process are not very robust. A lot of people add some JBWeld to the top of the posts as added security.
You want to slide a screwdriver blade under the cap and pry directly between the retainer and the horn contact.
