Default Help identify sealant (pics)

Hi all,
Under the rear deck of my '70 convert above the astro vent there is some sealant I would like to know if any original cars share the same description. It looks messy but i don't know if this was from work done on the car or it came this way.

The passenger side is shown with the astro actuator beneath. The material is very brittle and hard.

The driver side does not have the same brittle sealant across the entire length, but does have some soft pliable caulk at one end.

GCCCH,
Great Pictures!!!! But, no answer!!!! I'm completely DUMB about convertibles.
Now an IMPORTANT question.... are the Astro doors and flappers riveted or screwed (into J-nuts) to the fiberglass underbody.
I can't quite tell on either side, although the pass side looks like a cross headed screw.
Thanks,
Alan

Most likely the sloppy sealant was from the factory. Quality wasn't even A Job let alone Job #1 back when these cars were built.

I think it is the same material used to bond all the glass panels on the car.

They may have put a putty/caulk material to fill in any gaps the bonding agent did not fill in.

Thanks, Bill. I think so too. I'm beginning to see more of it elsewhere on the body, but it is particularly sloppy in the are of the pic.

Alan, I'll have to check tomorrow and get back to you. It looks like these have not been messed with, but let me take a closer look and let you know how they are attached.

Alan,
They are phillips screws but I don't know what they screw into. I'm not planning to disassemble it for now although I suspect the actuator is not working. When I do I'll need to replace the foam seal but right now it's not important. The top is down all the time and will probably remain that way.

GCCCH,
Thanks big time!! Someone's been talking to me about these rivets/screws and I was very curious about convertibles.
Regards,
Alan
