hi guys, it seems to me that most buyers for 68-72 corvettes are a bunch of bottom feeders, and they dont realize the amount of time and money that goes into a car, just to make it a good driver, not to mention a frame off, i have done 2 frame offs, but when they are completed i dont want to sell them, especially to a bottom feeder. 72 LT-1 69- 390 BB . greg

If someone "doesn't realize" how much time and money goes into it that doesn't make them a bottom feeder. They're a bottom feeder if they DO realize how much time and money goes into it and still don't want to pony up
Just remember that we were all new to this once ... frankly I never thought it would cost $17,000 to redo my 81 back in 1999 but it did, and that's why I bought the 68 already restored.
A car is only worth so much no matter how much you put into it. Why would i pay more than a car is worth? That would just be stupid.
If you don't want to sell them that's your issue, but just because no one is willing to OVERPAY doesn't make them "bottom feeders".
Putting money into a car is NOT a good way to make a return 99% of the time, if you don't like it, then stop doing it. Otherwise insulting those who might really buy your car is just plain stupid.
If you did a quality frame-off, then there are one of two scenarios that you should fit into:
1) You should be so in love with every detail of the car that selling it really isn't an issue...or
2) You did it to make $$ and you're finding that YOU made the mistake of investing too much (maybe in the wrong car) or wanting it to pay off too quickly.
Question:
When you bought your 2 project cars did you pay top dollar, or did you look for the best deal and haggle...you may just be a bottom feeder that's swum to the top only to look down on his brothers for wanting to do the same.

Great response! Well done!!
If nothing else, one thing is certain about "Kid". He can't follow directions. This section of the board is for buying and selling NOT discussion. That says something about this guy. If he follows directions as well as he does his "restorations" he cars must be outstanding..............

That is unless, you owned the '68 small block that sold for 152K at BJ this year.

Im a bottom feeder, I need to find the best bang for the buck, but I would not not wear out my welcome when looking at someones car by haggleing them to death, actually I just walked away from a nice car 70 in my avatar, frame was too rusty, but the rest of the car was original cept for the new paint, I wanted this car [18k] but cant see lifting the body, and going thru a restoration, I didnt tell the seller that, I just said thanks but no thanks.
I believe LT-1 Kid didn't mean it the way it was worded. The majority of us put a lot of time and money into our cars. Corvettes for the sake of this discussion. Frame off restorations are the extreme. Our cars become a part of us, our alter personality. There are some "buyers" who have no appreciation for all the cumulative efforts put into our cars and offer way lower money for them than low book, sometimes getting offended because they think it's worth what THEY think it's worth to them. Perhaps 'bottom feeders' was an incorrectly used description. Uneducated and unappreciative?
Bottom line is this: C3 are under-valued right now when compared to much of the muscle car market. On top of this the entire market is down right now nation wide.
With these two factors in play sellers are at a serious disadvantage. Don't complain about it, just understand the reality of it.
Most of us speculate that the market value of the C3 may escalate to be more in line with cars of their era in the near future. But do not complain becuase this has not happened, just accept it.
I know I have thought C3s were underpriced for as long as I have owned a car. Even back in 1990 the C3 was underpriced. The difference was that Chevelles and Camaros were cheap back then too. When a numbers matching '69 427 tri-power two top convertible can be purchased for $10K (in 1993), you know that you are getting a good value! The good news is that these cars are appreciating and faster than inflation.
your right, most guys want the best deal, the way you did 69 is with respect. i had one car listed on the internet and guys call and offer half and dont even look at the car. maybe its the times, money is tight

It's the times. You and everyone else is frustrated with the economy, etc. But you can't paint everyone with the same paintbrush. Yes, there are jerks but then there are really nice, knowledgeable buyers as well.
ss396 - "uneducated' I think fits. Some suburban schlub will buy a car some on here would part out, then spend a ton to make it ok.
Bad move. Lt-1 kid, its just the market. You only need one buyer.
And patience. Good luck.
I spent $40k on my '69. I knew (from being on the CF) that if I ever went to sell it, that I'd be lucky if I got half. That didn't stop me from building it the way I wanted it to be (very modified), the way that would bring me the most joy. When I put it up for sale, I knew that the market, not me or my opinions about the car, would dictate the selling price. I listed it's attributes and what I had in it, then let the man with the most cash drive (tow) it away. (I say tow because he bought it sight unseen, with a partially finished, new motor). Too bad everyone can't be so understanding!
