Default Help with Cowl Induction, please

Hi, I own a 76 vette and I really want to make its cowl induction hood functional. The problem is although I can locate the flanges and air cleaners involved I think there is a a slight difference in the hoods from earlier models, say a 75, I believe there is a piece that is attached to the underside of said hood. Anyway would anyone know how I can get one? I have looked and looked and still cant find one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From the Vette Vues Fact Book on the 1976 -"The over the radiator air induction system for the engine was new for 1976. This was done to reduce the noise level which had been present with the cowl induction system" on the 1975. So, your '76 has the over the radiator air induction system and the hood is different between 75-76 for that reason - you probably don't have the flapper. I have a '75 and the system works great if you're going 150 mph+ --the key to the '75 and earlier systems was a switch on the gas pedal if depressed fully it opened the flapper door, and most important it went to the tranny to put it passing gear. Hope that helps. PS- you might have a '75 hood depending on when your car was produced, double check with another '76.

The 73, 74 and 75 had the same hood (73 was the first year for the rubber front bumper). The '75 had an open top air cleaner with rubber seal that fit snugly against the inside hood "hole" that then went to the flapper.

Would you happen to know which system works better. I suspect that cowl induction would and that is why I would like to switch over to it if possible.

That is kind of the way I was thinking about setting it up, without the flapper. What I mean is that I need that peice of metal or, possibly fiberglass, that creates the hole underneath the hood. I am fairly certain I dont have that, I can't be sure, but I cant check either, because I am having my car painted right now as well as having an l98 engine dropped in. We are going carb and not TPI with my car so I figured it would be nice to make the Cowl Induction thing happen. Any advice as to how to procure that piece that the flanges go into would be very welcomed.

Here is a pic of the bottom of the hood. The whole bottom hood reinforcement is different than your hood as well as the additional grill. Changing your hood would be a lot of work and with another hodd you would have to repaint.

Probably it would be much easier as it is only bolt in, cheaper and probably work better to use the later model L82 dual snorkel air cleaner base which uses the same over the radiator snorkel you now have, but also has another fresh air snorkel that goes on the passenger side to the front.
Keep checking ebay and you should find a decent assembly.
