I need to replace the rear spindle since the threads are in such poor shape. Figured that i should upgrade the wheel studs since I have to wait for the spindle anyways.
First of all, what is the size of the wheel stud and the knurl?
Second, without a press, what is the easiest way to remove and replace the studs from the spindle? Gently with a sledge with the spindle braced on a vice? Use the vice and a socket to press it out?
I think you will find that the studs come out pretty easily. Try tapping on one with a hammer and it will probably start to move. The studs have a toothed (for lack of the proper word) portion that goes through the hub and that is primarily what holds the stud in place. To get the new stud to seat just get the teeth lined up and tighten down a lug nut. It should draw right into the hub plate.
Hey Mike-You missed an awesome run a couple weeks ago! Hope you saw the pics that were posted.
I agree with the poster that mentioned the press. I have one if you need it. Just bring the spindle over and we'll press them in. Shouldn't taske more than a few minutes
I have to change my studs also since they complain at the racetracks that they have to reach out at least 1 stud-dia outside the rims..... And my doesnt!
But does my 74 Corvette have the same size as Magnet's 80? (.560 knurl)
