Default Headlight Switch removal

I have to replace the headlight switch in my 70. Looks simple enough to do once I can get access to it, and I have been given an nos one as a replacment.

My question is what is the best method everyone has used for removing and replacing this...?

- Remove the dash pad to gain access? (not thrilled about this)
or
- Drop the steering column and remove the drivers dash pad to gain access?

Any tips, tricks or experience advice would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks in advance

I had the one in my '70 out a few weeks back BUT I had the upper dash pad out for replacement so it was not big deal. Sorry I can't suggest a simple way.

Best of luck with it!

Default just went through this

I am still putting my interior back together in my 1972... I just put a new switch in and honestly... just unscrew the laower dash pad on the sides and the top. Pull it forward on the left upper corner and see if you can get your hands in there. If not... unbolt the column and drop it down a bit for more play... you should be able to get in there and install the new switch pretty easily...hard part for me was just getting the switch to release the rod... once that happened it went fast and smooth.

Replace the bulbs in the Tach and Speedo while you're at it if you drop the collumn.

If you don't drop the column you have to put a lot of pressure on the VERY OLD dash pad. I think it's worth the time it takes to drop the column a couple of inches to give the pad some room to move down and back.
Regards,
Alan

PS: My wife can always tell when I've been working behind the dash because I have new scabs on the back of my hands.

Thanks for the tips/suggestions gents...I'm gonna try to avoid taking out the dash pad... and drop the column if necessary.
