Default No, no no no no!!!

I've fallen into the horrible, deadly, evil "while I'm at it" trap!

Transmission's blown, so I may as well do the engine and convert to a 5sp.
While it's immobile, I'll pull the dash and modify it for a DIN stereo.
While that's out, I can yank the carpet.
While that's out I should do some sound deadener.

It could end eventually...

So, how bad is it for you guys?
Anyone here have the rare ability to leave something "crucial" undone?

If you didn't notice the problem until you got down to it...it wasn't "crucial"; put it on the "TO DO" list for another time.

I feel your pian!! It is soooo hard to stop or "just say NO" once you get to taking things apart. I started off with just stripping the car and getting it painted........2 1/2 years later she is finally ready to get back on the road! The only thing I need to do is to put the door panels on...but as long as they are off why not put some sound deadner in them....and as long as I'm doing that why not go ahead and do the rest of the car since I'm planning on redoing the interior... and while thats out might as well go ahead and replace the old radio with a XM ready CD stereo....so I'll need a new bezel to fit the radio.....then there are the new speakers and sub.....you see how it just goes on, and on, and on, and on...........never ending!!!

But man is it FUN!!!! I think thats what they tell me.......

PS, I should follow my own advice. I'd be driving it instead of looking at it and wondering where to start, or where to find the ambition !

I had a busted fender and a bent lower control arm shaft. 2 years later I am 2/3 done with a full on body off resto mod, have learned to weld, learned how to build a transmision, own a set of torches, wire welder 2 sand blasters and $3k in other (new) tools.
Now if I could just get the damned thing finished I could drive it

I KNEW I was in good company!

I'm a year down into staring at mine not making it's own heat. Trying to keep it all in perspective and prioritize better. Leaving a lot of stuff for later and mostly, focusing on safety issues. GO isn't the prob; controlled direction and STOP is.

Struggling some days more than others not to lose sight. Hope to see the car somewhere else other than on jackstands soon.

Default While we are at it!!!

Just two years ago mid-winter, going to get "a few" things done, the transmission goes! The owner of the Transmission Shop (a Friend) says "Your Radiator has a leak" well. . . that was the start.
With the radiator out, you might as well do the waterpump,
then the overdrive Pullies, oh who needs that Air Pump Anyway,
and the alternator looks like crap, they make a chrome one don't they?
and those Stock Manifolds, give me a break, it "Needs" Headers,
better do something with those Value Covers,
And those TB's leak, better get those rebuilt busshings,
And the Stock Air Filter doesn't need the "Warm Up Arm" with Headers,
Can't have the Headers going into a stock exhaust with a cat,
and the mufflers, well
wow, those mufflers make the spare tire bucket look like hell, better paint that to match the car.
That engine bay looks awesome, but the underside of the hood needs to be repainted. and Not Black either! Silver Beige & Brown!

And of course the whole thing won't run right unless you get performance chips for the computer & distributor.

AND, and, AND (I don't think it's done but I am definitly on Pause)

FYI: Two years later I'm still paying for it but what a ride! Wouldn't Change a Thing! NO REGRETS!

Last year I had to pull the dash to fix a wiring problem. 4 months later and with half the summer gone I pulled my car out of the garage with a freshly dyed interior. Looks good, but those were prime driving months. Not doing that again. No projects until it's too hot or too cold to drive.

You're primary interest isn't in driving....it's TINKERING! {I can almost see it now.... lit torch in one hand, air chisel in the other, welding helmet on the brow, and the lilt of "ARRGH ARRGH ARRGH" in the air. Great, isn't it?}

For C3 owners, wouldn't that make it an OFF-body experience?

How about the outerbody experience browsing the web shops and thinking "Damn that part looks nice, I also must install it!!"

Brake line collapsed and caliper locked up. replace bad caliper, rotor and line? Sure. I just cut out all the steps in between and bought 4 new calipers, 4 new rotors, all new stainless lines, new MC, and oh - while I'm in there I ought to do those front wheel bearings...

So, after I install the seatbelts I got from a trans am and fix the door locks and the stereo I'll probably move on to dress up the engine- where I will really get into trouble if history is any indication. Or maybe I'll seal up that area around the radiator and drop the running temp. Sure would like a 5 Speed though...

We all have the WIH (While I'm Here) sickness.

We should come up with a clever name for it. Maybe WIH is it...
