Hey guys,

Is there a special tool needed to reset/replace the rivet in the nose that is seperating?
or is it time?

Thanks

Yes, there is a special tool.
The rivets are aluminum and you hammer them with the tool from the narrow side of the rivet while backing up the flat side with a big hammer or dolly. The job is easier with 2 people.

I made my own tool out of a 7/16 punch. I put the punch in my drill press and drilled a pocket in the top of the punch with a large bit.

Ecklers sells a tool for this purpose. I own it but I will be the first to tell you to not waste your money on it . Make your own and follow the instructions of the other forum member who posted

I made my own. I took the pointy air chisel bit, ground it down flat and counter sunk with my drill bit. The air regulator lets you turn the pressure down so it doesn't go skidding all over the place. I then back it up with a body dolly covered with a few pieces of duct tape to keep from scuffing up the rivets...works great...cost no charge

I bought mine from here: http://www.aircraft-tool.com/default.htm they have alot of riviting tools at good prices. I just bought the bits, and used my IR air chisel to drive them.

I just replaced over 100 rivets in my car mostly in the cockpit area, and like Coop, I used the air chisel with a dished end. If you have a lot to do then this method is really fast and easy. Check out this article by John Hinckley from Corvette Enthusiast Magazine., Rick

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to drill out the punch and do the rivets manually as there are only 3 that are loose.

I'll update when done.

Thanks
