A DeWitts radiator is about the best option you should consider. Phenomenal quality and customer service. The radiators drop in and fit just as the factory radiators did. The aluminum is an upgrade, and they can even be painted to match the original so no one would even know the difference. It's easily one of the best mods I have made to my car.

I feel your pain; I have just dealt with a radiator demon. You don't need an aluminum radiator to cool a 383. I replaced my 3 core radiator with a direct replacement 3 core from Advanced Auto for $195. I have a 500hp 383 that never gets above 190 degrees in stop and go traffic. Don't get me wrong the Dewitt’s aluminum radiator looks great and heard it works great also but I personally couldn't justify $495.

I thought that exact same thing. I kept hearing how great they were and how everyone was so happy with them. I finally decided to pull the trigger and get one, and now I see why everyone doted so much on these radiators. It's just one of those things you don't understand until you actually spend the money on it.

Buy a Dewitts - put it in once and forget about it. The only way to go. Tom even hangs out here at the forum and is a supporting vendor.

I'm close to doing this myself, so a question for you all, what is the advantage of going with the pre-assembled aluminum radiator with the twin Spal fans?

To answer my own question, I would say, spending the extra and getting something as close to plug and play as possible would probably be worth the extra money to avoid having to spend the time sourcing all of the parts, getting it all put together correctly and fabbing up mounts for everything in the limited time that I have. That and I have neither the tools nor the skill to fabricate my own stuff such that it doesn't look like something that fell off of a dump truck.

But I want to hear everyone else's thoughts on the matter...

Pete,

Your profile didn't help me determine which radiator your car should have. You see, the 68 could have received either a copper radiator or an aluminum radiator depending on the motor and options. Often on the C3 forum when someone asked about an aluminum radiator for 68-72, people forget that the base sb actually came with an aluminum radiator already. So replacing the aluminum radiator with a copper one is actually a downgrade. 68 is by far the most confusing year for radiators so here is a simple guide

BB manual = Copper 22.5" core (our aluminum direct fit A66M)
BB auto= Coppler 22.5" core (our aluminum direct fit A66A)
SB base car (no ac, manual trans, and no special engine) aluminum
This one we make the exact resto unit (941) or Direct Fit (A63M)
SB auto = copper (use A66A, same as the bb auto rad)
SB w/AC = copper (use A66M, same as bb manual)

69-72 copper radiators went to a 27.5" core for BB & 26" for SB

If you have the factory aluminum radiator and do not want to spend $800 for the real resto unit, the Direct Fit is a very good option. Here is a pic of the A63M

For Nate99, we offer every radiator we make with the option of a fan mounted to it. Here is the above unit with a 2300 cfm spal (SP016) You note that all our fans are rigid mounted to metal brackets, never with zip ties or pins and no ugly hardware over the top of the radiator.

Sounds right...the aluminum radiator cars also had a metal fan shroud & uses a separate surge tank.
