Torque Spec needed
Does anyone have the torque specification for the u-joint flange to the spindle flange for a 73 automatic?
I think the service manual said 15 foot pounds, but that cant be right.These are the bolts that are held in place by the French locks.

Those are 5/16" threads, aren't they? Or maybe 3/8"? No way they take 75 ft-lbs...especially since they can't back off (with the French locks). 3/8" thread would take 32 ft.-lbs; 5/16" would take 25 ft-lbs.

These are the ones that bolt into the axle flange. They are 7/16-20 fine thread bolts. They can take all 75 ft/lbs and more. The inners are either the straps which cannot take hardly any torque without distorting the caps or the caps which are about 15 to 20 ft/lbs.
