Exhaust Heat Riser Question
Bought a complete new exhaust system from corvette central including the heat riser. Heat riser moves easily but doesn't seem to want to open. How long should it take for the metallic strip to open the riser and you start the car. 71 Vet no vacuum system on the exhaust--strictly mechanical.

On my 71 it opened fairly quickly...as it was warming up I would start to see exhaust coming out the pass side. Eventually I wired mine open as I didn't need cold weather warm ups and the intake manifold was discoloring from the heat.

Unless you are strictly an NCRS guy or plan on driving your car in sub zero temps the heat riser spacer would be a better deal. Or you can just wire it open.
It should open within a couple of minutes and as said above as soon as the manifolds are getting heat it should start opening.
