Default Will a 1406 carb fit ??

Will an elec choke Edelbrock 1406 fit under a stock small block hood on a 72 base 350 ?

I know it will attach and plumb.....

I just want to make sure the hood will close before I give up on the Q-JET !

I think that they are the same heigth.I had a 1406 on stock 75 L82 w/the air cleaner, and everything was fine. They are different inside now,but pretty much the same dimensions as the quadrajet. You should be fine.

I will also, add this.....your quadrajet is going to be WAY more responsive than the 1406.

I agree that the Q J is by far the better carb. It floods out at IDLE after it gets hot. It left my wife stranded in a 4 way stop today. I thought I had it fixed. She called me on her cell phone. I told her if she put it to the FLOOR while turning it over....it would clear and crank. It did. I'm just tired of fighting with it. Won't idle when it's hot....rich....rich....rich.

Y'all are right.....I will fix it after a week or two.

Thanks.........Fred

I am not trying to make a cent here, but if you wanna ship the carb here...I will run it over to this ex-drag racer, asnd have him do it for you.he charges 60 a carb, and the cost of the rebuild kit. This guy is as good as they come.He "got" retired because he has that disease where he is loosing his motor skills...it's neurolical, and walks w/2 canes, but his brain is a computer.I can't say enough about Terry.
Just a thought for you....He will have that carb set up better than when it was new.

You could try this as a check:

Install the carb but do not plumb it. Install the air cleaner you are going to use on the car. Get some clay or silly putty. Make 5 small cone shaped pods with the putty and place them on the top of the air cleaner. One in front, one in the rear, one on each side, and one directly in the middle. Close the hood SLOWLY and reopen if she shuts all the way. the clay will smash down, giving you a good idea of the under hood clearance. If it does not fit, i think there are low profile air cleaners available that should bolt right up to that carb, just remember if you go with a low profile unit you still have to re-check the under hood clearance in the same manner.
