Another way to do it. Many would say don't use a glass filter housing though.
How do you get a 4" tall air filter on and still have hood clearance? The combination drop base and 3" air filter, I have, only allows about 3/4" clearance.

Not just a 4" element, but also a spacer plate, a Performer RPM high rise manifold, and an original GM high-peaked lid with room left over.
The answer is simple, it's a '64 with a 67 BB hood.
