Default Where to mount inline fuel filter??

I was thinking about putting a filter inline just prior to the carb, but then was thinking that I wanted to keep fuel fittings to a minimum in the engine bay...and also to keep a cleaner look....NOW thinking about rear near the tank.

Thoughts, or other options??

Thanks.

If you do a search, I think you will find that most guys recommend a filter as close to the carb as possible. That would be downstream of the fuel pump which does a good job of providing pressure but not good at pumping with restricted suction.
If it's a trade off between function and looks, you have to make that decision.

How about something like this?

You can buy them through Summit with the AN fitting and tie it into your tee fitting.

I have been really considering this!

I have been getting 'hickups' while cruising, I realized I have no fuel filter after the fuel pump...wondering if thats whats causing it.

On my '70 I have a fuel filter about 2-3 feet from gas tank near frame rail - never developed any problems.

It would as a matter of fact...unless they sell "right" and "left" hand versions...

Good observation..

I built this one, follwing the paper here that Lars published. The only difference is the filter part # You also want to make sure the filter is as vertical as possible to prevent vapor lock.

On a street car with a mechancal engine-mounted pump, put the filter between the pump and the carb. Here's another photo of a setup like this:

There's a plug on the other side...you just swap the gauge with the plug....

Also, I used my existing Holley pressure gauge.

i'm running a filter in the fuel line under the car just where the seam on the front of the passenger door is. seems to work ok. i'm considering the summit fuel rail as well.

as for the hiccup while cruising, run the voltmeter tests on your coil, if you have HEI. i had a hiccup while cruising after about 30 minutes. thought it was vapor lock, turned out to be a bad coil.

Another way to do it. Many would say don't use a glass filter housing though.

My stock 1971 holley has small brass/bronze filters at the fuel input fitting on the carb.

Holley/Chevy performance manual says to get rid of them and replace them with an in-line filter. They tend to clog and restrict flow.
