Default *Need A Torque Converter!*

Recently installed the engine in my sig and need a torque converter for a TH350C.

What stall speed would you recommend? I'm thinking a 3000 would suffice.

Thinking about this one. TCI 242422

My setup is very similar to yours. I used a Fuddle 3200 and am very happy with it. It feels a little odd compared to a stock converter but it works great, much better than the B&M I had before. They are a supporting vendor here and have an add on the left. Very knowledgeable people to talk to.

They recommend a 3400 for my car. Will this be a pain in the *** to drive on the street?

What do you mean by your converter feels odd compared to stock?

I have to ask you what you're going to do with the car.
If you're racing, where does your torque start coming in on your cam curve? That would be the ideal stall speed.
Lots of disadvantages of a stall converter, including excessive fuel usage, creates more heat in the transmission, and the engine has to rev up to the stall speed before the car will move.
TCI Transmissions (should be on the web) has an excellent product called the "Street Fighter" which locks up around 1800 rpm, but I wouldn't go anything bigger than that unless your car is purely for the strip.
If you call TCI and want something to give you a "LITTLE" extra punch off the line at a stop light, ask them for the 1000-1200 rpm stall. Best of both worlds IMHO.

Whatever converter you decide on, be sure to install an external cooler as well. More stall = more slippage = more heat = dead tranny if not cooled properly.

actually the car drives very well on the street but you have to be very carefull taking off from a dead stop. Between the 500hp, cam and the converter the car wants to jump a little off the line, you just have to be carefull not to drive up someone's a$$. What feels odd is to step on the gas and have the rpm jump immediately to 3200 rpm but the car does not jerk or make any radical movements, it just accelerates smoothly while the car speed catches up to the engine rpm. I would think that it takes a lot of stress off drive line components but it does generate heat. I have a fan powered cooler under the rear of the car where the spare used to be. I have 355 gears so my cruise rpm is above stall. If you have 308 gears still you might want to opt for something lower.

Yes, my gears are 3.08 (3.07 actually for a 1980) what do you recommend?

just make sure your stall is lower than your cruise rpm if you plan on much highway driving or you wo't be able to afford gas for that thing.

especially at canadian rates
