Default Vehicle value depreciation from Engine swap

Hey all,

I’m a lurker so not all that new.
I had a question about value depreciation of a 68 327 350hp conv. if an engine swap were done.

I the engine needs a small tune up, but is still running fine.
I have a built 377 engine that’s rated at 500hp and I kinda wanna swap the engines, but I know this will definitely hit the future value of the car, I was curious if anyone had any predictions of how much?

If you just set aside the original lump and don't do anything irreparable to the car there would be no hit to take when you swap it back for the market other than the expenses you incur to do so. Besides, if you will enjoy your Vette more with a hotter engine while you do have it, such added value is "priceless" for you.

Just make sure the original is preserved well and you should be good to go

That's basically the same thing I'm doing, I have a 383 going in this week. The original 350 will be wrapped in plastic and stored. I don't ever plan on selling any of my vettes, but if for some reason I did I can either keep my 383 and put the 350 back in or sell it with both motors.

Just don't be one of those jackasses who resets the odometer when you put a new motor in - that's deceptive. Just document how many miles were on the original motor when you pulled it.

Up to you, BUT the 350hp 327 is the only optional smallblock for the '68s. If the numbers match and the engine is original, you will certainly want to hold on to it if you choose not to use it.

I have my original engine sitting in my parents basement. It will probably never go back in, but I like knowing I have it if need be.

Make sure your original engine is properly prepped and bagged for long-term storage...or you may find a rusted-together "lump" when you get ready to sell it.
