Default 'Vette died in traffic!!!

Took the 'Vette out for a run and just after I got about 5 blocks, it died. Cold died, no sputter, no warning. Knew what it was 1 second after it died. HEI Ign module. Foot it to Autozone, ask for a good performance one- 49 bucks for a Acell, take it back, do the replacement, found it not as tight as it should have been for a good thermal conduction. Looked at the side of the modules, same part no. oh well, it started right up. two hours. this one is torqued down tight and has good thermal grease. $49......

It happen to me the exact same thing.

It's very embarasing to have a very nice sport car and have to wave at cars behind you to pass in front at a traffic light.

Wow. This happened to me yesterday as well. Driving and engine just stopped. Autozone was 1/8 mile away. Bought ignition module, coil, cap and rotor. Figured I wanted to nail it quick since rain was a threat. I bought the cheap stuff. Total was $62 for all and the car started right up.

Same happened to me too…

Sputtered at half throttle and then died…waited a few minutes then I tried to crank her and she started right up.

Filled her up with fresh gas and the problem went away

Must have been some bad gas...

Heh, that's funny, wonder if we were footing it at the same time . It was a summit Dist. I mean, it's a good HEI they just didn't tighten the Module down tight enough. At least it was a easy fix!

I was cruising Gratiot about 4 pm when the engine pooped out in the middle lane. I coasted and changed lanes. Luckily I entered Colonial Dodge lot at stephens. My distributor was an accel package deal 2 years ago from Advanced Auto. Only 500 miles on it since then. I am still unsure which part crapped out. Maybe in my spare time, while safe in the garage, I can test the removed ones to find the culprit. If I took a guess though I am thinking control module. Mine was still new and seated down correctly, still could have been a defect

I had a nice passer by stop and assist me. Even gave me a lift to Autozone. I think I could have handled things alone but he was really nice and stuck around till I was running...guy was smart too. says he has an 1991 Vette in the garage at home and us Vette guys have to help eachother...what a good guy

All in all I got lucky. 1) Broke down in good weather. 2) Autozone close by and was open. 3) I barely keep any tools on board...luckily what I had is all I needed. screw driver and pliers. 4) Nice fellow vette owner stopped by

I was so lucky yesterday to not have to tow!!!

Gl bud...hope we are both road worthy now for many miles

Every one should replace these. Mine were in like shape when I got the 'Vette, one of the first replacements that got done.

I HATE that. At least you could fix it though. I had to have my car towed three times last year and it left me stranded more times then that. Wierd stuff like a relay in my engine harness, , the Accel ignition box going bad, my Accel GEN VII computer going bad, and finally, what I think the root cause of all my problems was, the grouding strap from the frame to the engine was replaced. No problem since I did that four months ago.

I was ready to sell my car.

An 82 I once had crapped out on the comute home. I had no tools so I called a rollback for a ride home. Got it home and checked for fuel; good. Then checked for fire; none. Turns out the rotor screws had backed out and released the rotor. A $8 part cost me a $80 tow bill.

The guy I bought it from was unable to do his own work because of problems with his hands and I wonder if his mechanic did this thinking he could create some repeat easy work. I mean who leaves those screws loose enough for them to back out?
